Microsoft has launched the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.2705 (KB5050636) for the Dev Channel. This latest update brings a new real-time translation capability in live captions for both AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs. Additionally, it enhances the existing real-time translation feature for Snapdragon-based Copilot+ devices.
This release serves as an upgrade to the previously discussed Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.2702.
In the official Windows Blogs announcement, Microsoft outlines the new real-time translation feature:
How to Access the New Real-time Translation Feature
If you are a Windows Insider utilizing a Copilot+ PC, simply head to Settings > Windows Update to install the most recent updates. Additionally, Microsoft mentions that those who prefer an immediate solution can download the latest drivers for AMD and Intel NPU to activate this feature:
- Download the latest AMD graphics driver for Ryzen chipset.
- Download the latest Intel NPU driver for the Intel Core Ultra 200V Series processor.
Real-time translation was previously available for Snapdragon devices, and this update further enhances its capabilities by adding support for real-time translation from Simplified Chinese.
The announcement states that supported languages now encompass Arabic, Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, German, Greek, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, and Swedish.
A known issue associated with the KB5050636 update indicates that if a user resets their PC via Settings > System > Recovery, the build version may appear incorrectly as Build 26100 instead of Build 26120. Despite this, Microsoft assures users that this will not hinder access to future Dev Channel updates that will correct the issue.
Additionally, the company has noted some minor bugs. For instance, launching live captions for the first time might result in a crash; however, a restart should remedy this. There may also be crashes when switching languages while audio is active with the microphone enabled—Microsoft recommends stopping the audio temporarily before changing languages to mitigate this problem.
